Tear trough fillers can provide an ideal and effective solution to a tired look. But how long will you actually enjoy them?
You often enjoy the tear trough filler treatment for a long time. On average, the filler stays in place for 12 to 18 months. During this period, the filler is gradually broken down by your own body. When the filler is completely broken down, the treatment can be repeated again.
Tear trough fillers are used to fill the depth under the eyes. This is because a deep tear trough can give a tired look, despite you not being tired at all. The tear trough filler is a very thin filler that spreads nicely into the area under the eyes. Because it fills the depth, and often reduces the dark discoloration a bit as well, it gives a beautiful fresh and open look.
On average, hyaluronic acid fillers last about 9 to 12 months. Of course, the exact duration of effect varies by type of filler, location of the treated area and, of course, by person.
The reason tear trough fillers last longer is mainly due to the location of the filler. In a dynamic area, such as around the mouth, a lot of movement takes place. This causes a higher blood supply which will eventually cause the filler to break down faster. Under the eyes, the area is little to not dynamic. Therefore, it takes longer for the filler to break down there.
When the filler is broken down by the body, you can repeat the treatment again. Often this is after one or one and a half years. This way you can maintain the result nicely. Of course, you can have your doctor carefully check to see if there is still filler present. Is there still a layer of filler present? Then it is wise to perform the treatment with a smaller amount of filler, for example 0.5 ml. This way you avoid "overfilling" the area and thus the chance of too much fluid.
