A trusted address for botox in The Hague.

Botox can be a godsend for cosmetic and medical reasons. Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a muscle relaxant that temporarily prevents the treated muscle from contracting. Because the muscle no longer contracts properly, a wrinkle can no longer form in the skin. As a result, the skin becomes smoother and tighter. Wrinkles can thus be both reduced and prevented.

A botox treatment gives about three to four months of results. After that, the treatment can be repeated. At JECT Clinics we also offer Alluzience. This botox remains effective for an average of five to six months.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is botox?
ject-arrow

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the muscles being treated. This happens because at the cellular level, the transition from nerve to muscle is blocked. Thus, the muscle temporarily receives no signal to contract. The skin lies over the facial muscles like a blanket. When these muscles can no longer contract, it also cannot create a wrinkle in the skin. In addition to being able to fade existing wrinkles, it has an important preventive effect. This is especially beneficial if you are between the ages of 20 and 40 years old and want to prevent deep wrinkles at an older age.

Is botox safe?
ject-arrow

Botulinum toxin is considered very safe worldwide. In fact, it has been used in medicine for various medical purposes since the 1970s. Clinical and scientific research have demonstrated the safety of botulinum toxin for many years. Nevertheless, it is important to have a botox treatment at a professional clinic with an experienced doctor. If the treatment is not performed competently, the wrong facial muscles may be injected, causing undesirable effects. It is also possible that people are hypersensitive to (one of the components of) botox. In such cases, it is important that a doctor can act appropriately and medically.

What are possible side effects?
ject-arrow

After the treatment, mild swelling and redness around the injection site may be present. In a few cases, there may be a small bruise.

Side effects from botox are rare. Sometimes people may experience a temporary headache about a week after treatment. In certain areas, such as the forehead, a tight feeling may be experienced in the first two weeks. Also, certain areas may experience some fluid collection around the eyes in the first few weeks. This is often because your body needs to get used to the effect of the botulinum toxin. These side effects often disappear spontaneously within the first two weeks.

If the botox is not injected properly, or the aftercare recommendations were not followed properly, the botox may act on an unintended muscle. Rare side effects, such as drooping eyebrows or eyelids, may then occur. At a professional clinic with extensive experience, these side effects almost never occur.

In the most extreme case, there is hypersensitivity or allergy to a component of the botox. This may manifest as excessive swelling or redness of the skin. In this case, the doctor may need to prescribe anti-allergic medication.

Which botox does JECT Clinics work with?

At JECT Clinics, we work with Azzalure and Alluzience. Both botulinum toxins come from Galderma, which is Europe's largest manufacturer in the field of dermatological injectables.

These A-brands have been on the market for years and have excellent experience. A unique feature of both brands is their rapid duration of action. Where other types of botox need ten to fourteen days to work, the Azzalure often starts working after only five days and the Alluzience even after 24 hours.

What is (not) allowed after a botox treatment?
ject-arrow

After a botox treatment, it is important to make sure that the botox cannot move to unintended muscles. Therefore, lying flat on your back should be avoided for six hours and rubbing in the face should be avoided for two days.

For the first two days, you should not exercise or lift heavy objects. Also, visiting the sauna, spa or swimming pool is not recommended. This is because this will stimulate blood circulation to the skin, allowing the botox to be drained.

How often should you repeat a botox treatment?
ject-arrow

The average effect duration of botox is three to four months. When the effect of the botox wears off, it is recommended to repeat the treatment. In this way you can maintain the result properly and you do not have to keep starting from scratch. If the botox treatment is repeated regularly in the beginning, the muscles will get used to it, resulting in longer time intervals before repetition of the treatment is necessary again.
