The tear duct filler treatment can give a beautiful, rested result, but not everyone is a suitable candidate. Careful analysis and experienced execution are essential for good results. But what are the alternatives if you are not a suitable candidate for tear duct filler? In this article, we explain everything!

A tear duct filler is a treatment in which a small amount of hyaluronic acid filler is placed in the deep line or hollow under the eye, also known as the tear duct. Filling this area makes you look less tired, fresher and more rested. It is a subtle treatment, but one that requires a lot of precision. This is because the tear duct area is prone to swelling and fluid accumulation. Therefore, a cosmetic doctor must always look at several important criteria to decide if you are a suitable candidate for the treatment.
Primarily, tear trough filler is intended to fill depth under the eyes. Having such depth is often genetic and has to do with the anatomy of your face. Despite also having positive effects on the color and skin quality under the eyes, tear trough filler is otherwise not meant to reduce dark circles or sagging skin.
Because the tear duct area is sensitive to moisture collection, the treatment is not recommended if you are already naturally sensitive to moisture around the eyes. This is because hyaluronic acid fillers always attract some moisture to themselves. Do you ever suffer from "puffy eyes" in the morning? Then the treatment is not wise: there is a good chance that moisture pockets will form under the eyes. Instead, do you suffer from bags of moisture with 'bulging puffiness' under the eyes? Then the treatment is also not recommended, these swellings can get worse.
When tear duct filler is indeed a suitable treatment for you:
Moisture under the eyes, due to tear duct filler, can be an annoying complication. Not only does it make you look tired, it can also take a long time to get rid of. Moisture can collect in several places around the eyes: directly in the tear trough area, or in the so-called malar festoons.

Malar festoons are located in an area diagonally under the eyes, which naturally collects moisture around the eyes. You can think of it as a kind of "drain" for moisture around the eyes. Is your tear trough filler drawing too much moisture toward the eyes? Then you can suffer from these malar festoons. We saw an example earlier with Kylie Jenner: too much filler under her eyes created these malar festoons. This is obviously not desirable and in such a case it is important to dissolve the filler, of course.
At JECT Clinics, we also work with a tear duct skin booster based on hyaluronic acid. This is a subtle treatment that is particularly suitable for sagging or very thin skin under the eyes. The skin booster can be thought of as a very thin and liquid filler. It is inserted in an even fashion and also stays on average about 9 to 12 months. The tear duct skin booster provides subtle filler depth while firming thin skin and softening fine lines under the eyes. This can be a wonderful option if you want to address minimally sagging skin under the eyes. The degree of sagging skin is leading in this, though. Namely, if they are pockets of sagging, the tear duct skin booster is not appropriate, but a lower eyelid correction is usually recommended.

Do you want to focus on strong, healthy and fresh skin under the eyes? Then a PRP treatment is an excellent way to do this. PRP stands for 'Platelet Rich Plasma', and uses your body's own platelets. It is a treatment also called the 'Vampire Facial' and was made famous by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian. This treatment can be done full-face or just for the area under the eyes. Platelets from one's own body contain many growth factors and proteins for skin renewal. So injecting the body's own platelets provides a big boost in skin renewal and tightening. PRP under the eyes is perfect for:

A tear duct filler treatment can give a beautiful, fresh and rested look, but the treatment is not suitable for everyone. Because the area under the eyes is prone to fluid accumulation, careful analysis by an experienced cosmetic doctor is essential. If your main concern is depth, firm skin and no bags of moisture, then a tear duct filler can offer a natural and refined result.
Not a suitable candidate for an under-eye filler? Then fortunately, there are excellent alternatives such as tear duct skin booster or PRP, which tighten and refresh the skin under the eyes in a safe, natural way. At JECT Clinics, we always work with you to see which treatment best suits your unique anatomy and desired results, with the goal of a fresh look in the most responsible way possible.
