Rejuran is an advanced skin treatment from South Korea that repairs and improves the skin from within. It consists of polynucleotides (PN), or short DNA fragments, derived from salmon. The small DNA fragments derived from salmon are nearly identical to our own human DNA and have been purified of proteins. As a result, the fragments are easily recognized by the skin and can stimulate the skin to initiate the repair process. You can think of the DNA fragments as small building blocks for the natural regeneration process: they activate fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen) and support the repair of damaged tissue.
An important feature: Rejuran is not a traditional skin booster that merely hydrates the skin. It focuses on structural skin repair from within. Polynucleotides have anti-inflammatory properties, strengthen the skin barrier, and improve skin quality over the long term. The result is therefore not a temporary “plumping” effect, but healthier, stronger skin that visibly functions better.
The use of salmon DNA (polynucleotides) in cosmetic medicine is not new. Internationally, and particularly in South Korea, this technology has been in use for over 10 years and is an established treatment for skin repair. In the Netherlands, this trend has only emerged in the last few years.
Rejuran was launched in South Korea around 2014. It was one of the very first polynucleotides to be widely used in cosmetic medicine. Rejuran has a wealth of clinical studies and experience, as it has been used intensively in Asia for a decade. That is why Rejuran is the most established and proven pioneer in the field of polynucleotides.
This is a common and understandable question. The media often uses the term “salmon sperm.” However, this is a simplified and not entirely accurate description. Rejuran contains short DNA fragments derived from salmon. To be specific: often from the salmon’s testes . This is because they contain a very high concentration of pure DNA fragments that are relatively easy to obtain.
These DNA fragments, derived from salmon testes, have been specifically purified and made safe for medical and cosmetic use. The final product therefore has nothing to do with “salmon sperm” and, of course, contains no biological components. It consists of highly purified building blocks that the skin uses for repair and regeneration.
Although both treatments use the same active ingredient (polynucleotides), the main difference lies in how deeply and effectively they penetrate the skin.
With injections (such as Rejuran), the product is injected directly into the skin, precisely at the level where skin repair takes place. This allows the polynucleotides to work optimally: stimulating collagen production, reducing inflammation, and restoring the skin’s structure. The result is a deeper, more effective, and longer-lasting effect.
With salmon DNA microneedling, the product is applied to the skin’s surface and absorbed through tiny openings in the skin created by the microneedling process. This can enhance the absorption of the salmon DNA and certainly leads to skin improvements, such as better texture and a healthy glow. However: absorption is less controlled and does not reach the same depth as with injections. As a result, the effect is generally milder and remains more superficial.
In short:
There are three versions of Rejuran available, each designed to address different skin needs. Rejuran Healer is the all-purpose formula for overall skin repair and improvement of texture and radiance. It can be used on the cheeks, chin, and forehead. Rejuran I is a special formula for the sensitive skin around the eyes. It is therefore used exclusively around the eyes and targets fine lines, dark circles, and thin skin. Rejuran S is a powerful formula specifically designed to treat acne scars and deeper skin texture issues.
Immediately after the treatment, you will notice many small bumps on the skin arranged in a distinctive pattern. You may also experience redness and slight swelling. This is normal and usually subsides within 1 to 3 days.
Theeffects of Rejuran build up gradually. In the first few weeks, you’ll often notice that your skin feels calmer and better hydrated, giving it a beautiful glow. In the weeks that follow, the actual skin repair takes place. The skin becomes firmer, more even, and its texture is significantly refined. Because Rejuran works to repair the skin from the inside out, the effect is subtle but becomes increasingly noticeable as the skin renews itself.
